“Color, light can wake bedroom” |
| Posted: 30 May 2010 12:10 AM PDT So, you like your bedroom set but are tired of the same old look? Let's explore some ideas for refreshing the room. Consider painting the bedroom for a fresh, new look. What color should you paint it? There's no limit to the possibilities, but start with a color that coordinates with the rest of the room so there is continuity throughout. Even a fresh coat of the same color will revitalize the space. Do you like the idea of a border around the ceiling or perhaps one-third of the way up from the floor? The border can be of paper, stencil or wood. That addition will certainly enhance the look of the bedroom. Rearranging the bedroom furniture will definitely change the feel of the room. Put the bed against a different wall, or try putting the bed on an angle in the corner. If the room is very small, the dresser might be better off in the closet. You will still have the storage, plus you will gain more space in the room. A rod can be placed above the dresser in the closet for hanging clothes. Let's keep talking about that dresser. If it is to stay in the room and not in the closet, be sure to "dress up" the dresser. Silk flowers in a pretty vase placed either in the center of the dresser or in a corner is always a nice touch. A few family pictures in beautiful frames would also be ideal. The frames don't have to exactly match but can coordinate with each other. A small, attractive lamp on the dresser is another great idea. Simply changing the bedspread or comforter will give a fresh appeal to the bedroom. There are bedding sales in department stores all the time. Lighting is always important. Be sure the lamps on the nightstands give adequate lighting if you are a reader in bed. Better still would be to install overhead lighting above the pillow area so light shines directly down for better illumination while reading. But in addition to illumination, the lamp or lamps in the bedroom should have a decorative effect. If you can't install lighting overhead and the nightstands are too small for effective lighting, then place wall-sconce lighting over the nightstands. Wall art is the finishing touch. These pieces can be as creative as you like. The subject matter needs to be something that is very appealing to you; it should be comforting and pleasant to look at and should encourage peaceful sleep. |
