Common Mistakes When Buying Modern Furniture

Did you buy modern furniture but have to return it the next day since it doesnt fit the design of your living room or bedroom? Have you ever ended up with furniture that is too big for space in your home or cannot fit in your front door to bring it inside? First-time furniture buyers tend to make a lot of mistakes that they have to spend more time, or money, on replacement, repairs, and the likes. If you want to avoid these problems then you might want to get to know more about them first. Here are some of the common mistakes made when buying modern furniture.

Mistake 1: Getting the Wrong Size -- "It just won't fit!"

That's right; the one that topped the list is getting the wrong size of furniture for your home. This problem is mostly attributed to lack of planning or putting too much faith in "guesswork". To avoid this problem, there are several factors that need to be addressed, such as:

1.Will the furniture fit your door so it can be brought inside the house?
2.Will the furniture fit through the division through the room where you plan to place the furniture?
3.Is the furniture of sufficient size to accommodate the space you allocated for it in your home without compromising leg room?

Include the size of the furniture into your planning while thinking of the above questions. Also, this will allow you to sort through the selections of modern furniture available in the market and to rule out those that wouldnt event fit through your doorway, much less getting it inside your home.

Mistake 2: Getting the Wrong Design -- "It clashes with the theme of the room, shall we give the walls a new paintjob?"

Another mistake is not considering the design of the modern furniture you acquired and comparing it with that of the interior of your home. In most cases, modern designs of furnishings today fit with almost any interior design -- from vintage to contemporary themes would compliment nicely with furniture in modern design. However, there are other factors that might disagree with this concept.

For example, the color of the furniture would clash horribly with that of your living room or bedroom wall. A black sofa would bode well with a lighter hue but would be a stark contrast to a room if it has the same color as your walls. The concept of furniture design is simple -- make sure that it stands out while complimenting the rest of the looks in your home.

A way to avoid this problem is to do a little bit of research on the subject. Consider the interior design and concept of your home and look for furniture that will fit perfectly with it in terms of color, overall hue, and of course, the style. Exhaust all the possibilities of your search and compare.

Mistake 3: Maintenance Woes -- "Honey, I accidentally scratched the sofa after I used the vacuum cleaner on it"

It is important that you consider the maintenance of the furniture you plan to acquire for your home. Keep in mind that modern furniture is not self-cleaning -- it accumulates dust, dirt, and the likes that needs to be cleaned if you want to maintain its overall quality. If you use the wrong cleaning method for your furniture then it is quite possible to damage it beyond repair. Avoid this scenario by asking the sales attendant on how to clean the furniture properly and avoid having to spend your hard-earned money just to patch it up.
