Galax furniture factory set for expansion

GALAX -- Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. is expanding its plant in Galax.

The Galax-based company announced the $1 million project yesterday. The four-phase expansion includes a new 16,000-square-foot building.

Vaughan-Bassett didn't say how many jobs will be created.

Vaughan-Bassett produces wooden bedroom furniture.

Executive vice president and chief operating officer Doug Bassett says the company employs about 650 workers at the Galax operation and 50 at its plant in Elkin, N.C.
