| ‘Pretty’ weed decór leads to felony charge Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:03 PM PST KEARNEY — A Kearney woman faces two felony charges after allegedly decorating her house with "pretty" ditch weed. Crystal Taylor, 30, is charged in Buffalo County Court with manufacturing marijuana and possession of methamphetamine, both felonies. She is accused of growing marijuana and having meth inside her central Kearney home. Court records outline the case against Taylor: In June, Kearney Police Department and Buffalo County Sheriff's Office officers followed up on a report that Taylor and a man were growing marijuana at her home in the 200 block of East 24th Street. Police found nine marijuana plants growing in several rooms inside her home. Taylor told police she picked them from an unknown person's yard and took them home to decorate her house. Taylor told police the marijuana was ditch weed, and she picked the plants because she thought they looked pretty. Ditch weed is wild, non-cultivated marijuana. Several hypodermic needles were found in the couple's bedroom along with bent spoons and a glass pipe with suspected meth residue. Taylor denied the items were hers and said a former roommate left the paraphernalia at her home. The suspected marijuana and meth were sent to the Nebraska State Patrol crime lab where they tested positive for the substances. Deputy Buffalo County Attorney Mike Mefferd said Taylor wasn't immediately arrested because of other investigations had to be concluded first. If Taylor is convicted, she faces one to 20 years in prison for the manufacturing charge and up to four years in prison for the possession charge.
